FROM now until March 4, Malaysians have a chance to turn their virtual road trip into a real adventure in Australia when they play the Ultimate Aussie Road Trip online game (australianroadtrips.com/game). The grand prize is a self-drive adventure for two in Australia worth RM10,000.
The top score is based on a tabulation of the game scores entered over the six-week contest period. There are also weekly prizes for the top three scorers of the week, comprising shopping vouchers and travel accessories worth a total of RM1,200.
Organised by Tourism Australia, the online game is part of the Great Australian Journeys campaign to promote self-drive holidays in Australia.
It aims to provide a fun and engaging platform for potential road-trippers to explore the recommended 17 road touring routes, simulating a real road trip.
It allows the player to customise his/her own road trip avatar, select the vehicle, choose the virtual buddies and the routes for the trip.
There are many mini-challenges on the way while taking care of the cash, food and accomodation problems, of course.
The 17 self-drive virtual routes include Melbourne to Adelaide via Great Ocean Road, Sydney and Surrounds, Queensland’s Great Sunshine Way, Great Southern Touring Route in Victoria, the Capital and Country Touring Route, and Nature’s Way in Northern Territory.
Maggie White, the general manager for South/South-East Asia and Gulf Countries, Tourism Australia, stated in a press release: “With its combination of excellent roads and established touring routes, beautiful coastal and hinterland scenery, quaint towns, and abundance of high-quality accommodation, Australia is an ideal destination for a memorable self-drive holiday.
“Australian cities are great destinations in themselves with plenty to do, but to experience true Australian nature and discover more of the unexpected – especially for repeat visitors – we encourage them to explore the nearby regions on a self-drive adventure.”
